What is WIC?

WIC is a federally funded nutrition program for Women, Infants and Children. United General District 304 has three WIC locations where we help pregnant people, new and breastfeeding parents, and children under the age of 5 by providing nutrition supports so they can eat well and stay healthy. Through WIC we also share other community resources that can help families thrive.

WIC is a place where families like yours get healthy food and a lot more. Monthly WIC visits connect you with people who care about your family’s health and provide four important resources:

Who is WIC for?

Who is Eligible for WIC?

WIC is for pregnant people and children (under age 5) in all kinds of families who meet income criteria. We serve two-parent families, single parents, teen parents, foster parents, grandparents and relatives with custody, and those with kinship care.

Almost half of all babies, one-third of pregnant people, and one-quarter of children under five in Washington State are on the WIC Program.

What Happens at WIC Appointments?

WIC Certification Appointments

“Certification” is the term we use to describe an appointment to verify your or your child’s eligibility for the WIC program. This happens during your initial application and then about once a year afterward.

  • We ask questions related to your household, your health history, and your appetite.
  • We will not ask about citizenship or immigration status.
  • We review the WIC Rights and Responsibilities form with you.
  • The process usually takes about 20-30 minutes.

Regular WIC Appointments

As a WIC client, you will meet regularly with a trained nutrition educator, breastfeeding counselor, or Registered Dietitian.

  • WIC appointments are individualized for you, and they usually happen every 1-3 months.
  • Breastfeeding Peer Counselors meet with pregnant people and breastfeeding parents to encourage and support goals around feeding human milk.
  • Registered Dietitians/Nutritionists are available to anyone interested in more nutrition information or with eating/feeding issues. One-on-one appointments with a nutritionist can provide a variety of specialized nutrition education.
  • About twice a year, WIC will ask to take measurements of height and weight. WIC staff will review growth charts with you. We can talk with you about an iron-status screening too.
  • Please bring your nutrition and breastfeeding questions!  We can provide answers, resources, and referrals to other services.

The letter must contain the complainant’s name, address, telephone number, and a written description of the alleged discriminatory action in sufficient detail to inform the Assistant Secretary for Civil Rights (ASCR) about the nature and date of an alleged civil rights violation. The completed AD-3027 form or letter must be submitted to USDA by:
